FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING AND PAINTING (For adults and selected teens)This class provides a thorough foundation for beginning and continuing artists. Essential elements of line, form, value, composition and color are investigated through guided exercises and lessons. Examples from artists through the ages illuminate and illustrate specific lessons, as well as broaden understanding and appreciation. Students will emerge from this class with a solid framework and a sound approach to painting.

DRAWING BASICS (For adults and selected teens)Essential skills and techniques for artists working in any discipline, including painting, animation, illustration, technical drawing, sculpture, graphics, or drawing for it's own sake. Guided exercises and lessons provide numerous approaches and new ways of seeing. A necessary prerequisite, or a complementary companion class for students enrolled in PAINTING. Students will emerge from this class with concrete skills, as well as a greater understanding of the fundamental elements and vocabulary of visual art.

PAINTING (For adults and selected teens)This class builds upon basics covered in FUNDAMENTALS and prepares students for a fulfilling on-going practice. Focus is on the development of space, depth, light, and form through composition and color. Students will learn traditional approaches, materials and techniques of painting from direct observation using oil or acrylic paints.

PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP (For adults and selected teens)Relief Printing is the oldest form of printmaking, yielding vibrant and exciting graphic results. In this class we will look at many examples of relief prints, including Japanese Ukiyo, German Expressionism, political graphics, graphic novels, and individual printmakers such as Jose Posado and Picasso, to explore various aspects of design and composition. Using Japanese tools, we will carve linoleum and print on an etching press.No previous experience is required.
